It’s like Dr. Mullen was in the room where it happened. “A whistleblower raising concerns might be dismissed as a “bitter ex-member,” while those who remain are praised for their loyalty.”
Thank you for this. And interesting timing, as I’m doing a 2-part series on the perception of victims (ie their perception about being victimized), and next week I’m exploring Jesus’ perspective of being demonized and called unstable. I might need to do a 3rd post about these weaponized tactics in the passage I’m discussing, John 7-8. Eg BIRGing: "We are descendants of Abraham," they answered him, "and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, 'You will become free'?" John 8:33
I can't articulate how your work has impacted me throughout the process of making sense of my 27 years in the same organization. Thank you for sharing this material here. What I find helpful, I pass along to the others in my small group of refugees and it has given us a firm place to stand where most of the people around us are moving on and back to the same wishful thinking for change without repentance. I still find it mind-blowing that what we experience in isolation and loneliness is so very common. I wouldn't have known if it weren't for sources like yours and others in this space. Thank you!
This is a great list. I especially like: "basking in reflected glow". Do you remember when Keith Raniere was so desperate to get the Dali Lama's stamp of approval on his work?
